Worship

I've always said that if you're struggling to figure out someone's view on the bible about something, like a church's view point on worship then look at the life of Jesus and see how they / it fits. So a question . . . . . how many times in scripture do we see Jesus singing worship to God?
Goin to BH (guess the abbreviation) for the weekend for a gymnastics comp, yep I've been workin on my Pummel horse! I'll get back to this blog after giving you some time to think about it, Catch ya, Glenno.

God sung to us... (somewhere towards the back of the old test)
Many a psalm (and other verses) telling us to sing to God.
Why did Jesus not (or where are they)

onviously worship is not just singing.... but singing is important..........
hmm worship is a heart attitude......and surrendering yourself however that looks.......and maybe expressing yourself to God, or in expression of His love........
hmmmm

I think Allie rrrr has hit on something with the 'heart' thing. Whiile I was house sitting this weekend (some friends of mine went to BH for the wkend :) ) I read an article and looked at an interesting DVD that they have - about 'contempory christian worship' (the article) and about 'doing the religious stuff' of church. (DVD) both pointed to the fact that GOd is NOT interested in our empty rituals, what He wants is our HEARTS - ALL of it. So I guess if your way of totally expressing worship to God is to sing, then sing. If it is working a night shift while at a drug and alcohol centre then do that. (actually I think it talks about this is the bible - if his gift is teaching let him teach, if it is giving let him give, if it is encouraging, let him encouage!)What do the rest of you people out there in cyber world think????

I like it Michelle! I guess the next logical question in my mind is: What will it look like to come together to worship? I know this has been an ever-present challenge to worship leaders for a long time now. After all, we all have different gifts and abilities and even different ways of expressing love and giving thanks. What then does it look like to worship together?

well.... as far as worshipping together..... the bible often commands us to sing when we meet togther, many times, soo many times in the Old Testement, and also in the New it Commands us to sing... i think its an important part of the spiritual battle..... in the old teste theres a few stories where the people with instruments went out onto the battle field before the army!! soo.. i guess singing together is an act of worship, but is also something we are supposed to do when we get together.. but maybe we've just called it worship, when really in the bible its called singing songs and praise, and making music.... and we are supposed it to it when we meet together...
in the old testement when people worshiped God they fell down prostrate...
also worship is about being obediant to God..living a life of sacrifice and obedience......
a pastor explained the difference between Homage and Worship: Homage is when a king would ride in after winning a battle and everyone would bow down and praise him because of what He can do, and did, where as worship in an intimate thing, we truly know God, we dont just know about Him.he explained it better than me..

maybe worship leading should be called praise or song leading....

coz we definately have to praise together............

I'm reading the Gospel of Mark at the moment and the night after reading your thoughts on Worship I came across this scripture: Mark 14:16-26. In particular, after they shared the passover 'they sang a hymn'. Possibly Jesus sang songs of praise & worship a lot but because it was just part of the culture the gospels don't pick up on it? Anyway, I just thought it was funny that I read that scripture soon after mulling over your thoughts on Jesus & worship.

Just one thing to comment on here and it's really important. That is that we should be very careful about using words like old teste and prostrate in the same paragraph, it makes me feel a bit nervous . . . . Ali.

interesting. Did Jesus go to Bible college? mmmm. ?
As for the singing, I read(in an other post) that Alan found a verse, which lead me on to another thought. How powerfull are songs- I mean even songs in general. I was out for tea tonight and discussing this subject, I started to speak the next line of the words for the song on the radio. i hadn't heard it for years, but I still remembered them. I think we'll never forget those words to all of the songs we've heard over the years, and to me the songs we sing in church are extra special. We also have a choice in how we sing. It can be just "blah, blah Jesus blah", or if we believe in the words we sing and that Jesus had made a difference, so much more. During the week, I like to sing while driving, or working etc, and it's not only nice to sing some of these songs, but to be convicted of their meaning. Worship, Sunday to Sunday should be a celebration of what Jesus has done, to offer praises to God, in all we do and are able as the spirit leads.

Another thought . . WWJD?
What Would Jesus Do ?

How about:
What would Jesus want ME to do?
